Sustainable Assessment to Overcome Barriers to Renewable Construction Materials

 

Products made from composite materials can offer significant environmental benefits because of their characteristically low weight, good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to corrosion. However, although the in service environmental benefits of composites are known, there is far less understanding of the environmental and social implications associated with the manufacture of composite materials and products.

 

The factsheet outlines the results of work funded through the Renewable Materials LINK Programme to assess the sustainability of using renewable materials in construction.

 

The online tool enables companies to make well-informed decisions about the likely benefits of crop-based materials without the cost and time requirements of conducting detailed life-cycle impact studies.
