Bindatex to Showcase Precision Cutting Skills at JEC World

Spools and Bobbins

Bindatex Advanced Materials Cutting is showcasing its narrow-width, high-tolerance UD carbon fibre slitting capabilities at JEC World 2016.

Bindatex says it has the capability to slit both thermoset and thermoplastic carbon fibre prepreg to widths as narrow as 3.175mm, meeting the high tolerances required by aerospace manufacturers, for instance. These slit tapes are available in spools and bobbins for both automatic fibre placement (AFP) and filament winding lines.

Chris Lever, Managing Director at Bindatex, commented; “We have seen a growing demand for UD prepregs to be slit to widths as narrow as 3.175mm and we’re anticipating this to increase further. Our high-tolerance slitting services have always been much sought-after for AFP, but now our slitting and spooling service is in high demand not only from aerospace but automotive and industrial customers for use in filament-winding and tape-laying applications.”

Chris added; “We mastered the ability to cut composite materials to a variety of shapes and sizes a long time ago and can now add this to our growing list of capabilities, due to continued development and investment in our machinery.”

Thanks to funding from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) – which aims to assist businesses based in the United Kingdom to succeed in international markets – Bindatex is exhibiting for the first time at JEC World from 8-10 March, with the aim to increase awareness of its capabilities in the wider European market.

Chris continued; “As Europe’s only independent specialist in this field, we’re in a great position to supply the European market. We’ve already worked with the like of BAE Systems, for instance, to help facilitate a more efficient supply chain and we’re keen to bring our skills to the attention of a variety of sectors and businesses that would benefit from our services and flexibility.”

The business boasts a vast amount of experience in the handling and storage of prepreg materials – including carbon fibre and glass UD composites. Bindatex’s facilities include a purpose-built composite prepreg slitting and spooling line, which is capable of producing AFP-grade composite tapes to a high tolerance and the storage of prepreg at -18°C.

Bindatex will be situated on the UK Pavilion in Hall 5A, Stand C65.
