On 29 April 2015 the 31 UK partner companies involved with the Composites Innovation Cluster (CiC) welcomed over 100 delegates to Warwick Manufacturing Group where they showcased project updates through presentations and exhibition displays.
The Cluster is funded by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills’ Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI).
Each quarter a Programme Steering Group (PSG) meeting is held, with attendance limited to partner companies and selected OEMs, however to celebrate the achievements that had so far been made by the programme the partners felt they needed a vehicle to disseminate this information to the wider composites community, forming new contacts and business leads that would allow them to build on project knowledge over the coming months.
Shanta Desai, Project Manager at Cytec, the Lead Partner of the programme said of the event; “My personal interactions with visitors at the event showed a large amount of interest in the materials and technologies that are being developed within this programme. From speaking to other Cluster partners it was apparent that they felt they were approached with commercial interest in their products/technologies.”
Michael Moor, Project Leader at Cobham said; “Even as a member of the cluster, it was impressive to see the progress that partners had made, and how their work was received by the delegates. The enthusiasm showed toward all projects from delegates and partners alike led to several discussions for further collaboration and opportunities – which is at the very heart of the CiC and a great result from the open event.”
With the success of the event, the CiC will look to replicate an event like this in 2016 as the programme comes to a close, which will include full details of the projects, how they have progressed and their final outcomes.
