Cristex supplies the Flexyfoam range of PVC Foams, which the company says is a unique closed cell, cross linked polymer foam that combines high-stiffness and strength-to-weight ratios with superior toughness.
The fine cell structure provides an excellent bonding surface compatible with most resins, with Cristex adding it is easy to use and can be worked with conventional tools, as well as being drilled, shaped or cut as appropriate, enabling Engineers and Composite Designers to tailor laminates to meet the most demanding applications.
Flexyfoam is available in a range of thickness, 3mm – 75mm and a range of densities and in addition to the standard grade Flexyfoam, it can be supplied grooved/drilled and scrim backed.
The material's main characterisitcs include:
- High-strength and stiffness-to-weight ratio
- Negligible water absorption
- Low resin absorption
- Resistance to chemicals
- High fatigue resistance
- Thermal insulation
- High fire performance
Cristex states that Flexyfoam can be used in a wide range of applications from marine (hulls, decks, bulkheads, super structures, interiors); automotive and rail (roof panel, floors, doors, partition walls, side skirts); wind energy (blades, nacelles, turbines, generators, housings); recreation (surfboards, snowboards, skis, canoes, kayaks); and industrial (tooling, tanks, ductwork, containers, covers)
