New Ultrasound Array Camera for UK Universities

JR Technology has provided the DolphiCam CF08 and CF16 ultrasound cameras to the Composite Engineering Department, University of Bristol and two other leading UK Universities.

The DolphiCam is designed for NDT inspection of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP’s) up to 16mm thick.  It utilises a unique transducer technology with high performance signalling electronics to create high-resolution 2D/3D images of the area under inspection.

This enables the status of the material to be quickly verified, helping research, manufacturing and service personnel to perform effective QA and to develop an effective repair strategy.

JR Technology says the DolphiCam has many features including:

  • Up to 8 mm (CF08) and 16 mm (CF16) options
  • Captures high-resolution images
  • Nearly 16,000 transducer elements over a 31 mm x 31 mm area
  • Dry and wet coupling capability
  • A-, B- and C- scans with simple PC based interface
  • Amplitude and time of flight modes
  • High Capacity internal battery
  • “Traffic Light” colour palette

The universities are using the DolphiCam to inspect test panels and samples for various projects, offering an alternative to full immersion C-Scan it gives comparable results very quickly.
Paul Rogger, JR Techonology’s Technical Director, said; “We are pleased to have supplied these universities with this high tech camera. The DolphiCam is a sophisticated yet simple to use piece of equipment that will help them to make great progress in future research.”

JR Technology Limited is the sales agency for DolphiCam in the UK.
