Scott Bader Exhibiting for the First Time at Automechanika Birmingham 2017, UK

Hyundai Intrado concept crossover vehicle manufactured from Axon Automotive’s AxontexTM technology carbon fibre composite frame.

Scott Bader is exhibiting for the first time at Automechanika Birmingham, which runs from 6-8 June 2017 at the NEC exhibition centre. Automechanika is now the UK's leading exhibition for the companies operating in the automotive supply chain and aftermarket, having grown this year to over 800 registered exhibitors.

The Scott Bader stand (Hall 6, C26), aimed at manufacturers looking for proven, high performance bonding and gap filling joining solutions, is located in the ‘Supply Chain Zone’ in Hall 6, a new addition to the show.

On the stand will be Scott Bader’s extended and rebranded ‘new look’ range of Crestabond® primerless MMA structural adhesives, which can bond most metal, FRP composite and polymer based engineering materials with little, if any need for surface preparation or a primer. Crestabond products were developed in-house by Scott Bader’s innovative R & D team to give design engineers and manufacturers reliable, high performance options for structural bonding and gap-filling. All grades of Crestabond are toughened, two component methacrylate based adhesives, providing excellent toughness, fatigue impact resistance and adhesion strength, even with the most demanding metallic and plastics substrates, such as aluminium, galvanized metals and low surface energy thermoplastics, including polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). Grade options are available in grey and black colours for aesthetically bonding glass fibre and carbon fibre reinforced FRP composite components, as well as black pigmented, machined or moulded, plastic parts made from a wide variety of engineered plastics.

According to Scott Bader, many manufacturers using Crestabond adhesives also benefit from having lower consumable costs and significantly increased shop floor productivity during assembly, and so these adhesives are now globally used by OEMs and tier 1 and 2 manufacturing companies for a wide variety of assembly applications and substrates in automotive, road and rail transportation, marine, and building markets. Jon Stowell, Global Head of Adhesives and Tooling for Scott Bader commented: “We have continued to focus on growing the automotive sector business by extending the range with more rapidly bonding products. The recently added Crestabond M1-02, with a 1-2 minute working time and sub-three minute fixture time, is aimed at manufacturers needing assembly line joining solutions for higher volume applications. We are optimistic that Automechanika will provide us with the opportunity to meet potential new automotive customers looking to combine high performance bonding with productivity.”

The extended Crestabond range meets the bonding requirements of most assembly operations, demonstrating excellent impact, peel, shear, compressive strength and fatigue resistance properties across metal, plastic and composite bonded components, with similar and dissimilar substrates. The current range offers a choice of 10 Crestabond grade options, offering fixture times from 2-3 minutes up to 4 hours, with gap filling up to 50mm. Application can be via a manual hand gun with 400ml cartridges, or using a dispensing machine and pneumatic gun with 20 litre pails or 200 litre drums of Crestabond for higher volume applications.

Automechanika Birmingham visitors can meet the Scott Bader team of Gary Coldwell (Sales Development Manager, Adhesives), Jon Stowell (Global Head of Adhesives and Tooling) and Carl Tydd (UK Account Manager), who will be on the stand, about suitable bonding applications and obtain technical information about the complete range of Crestabond products available.
