The Composites UK Sustainability Subgroup and the Composites Leadership Forum Sustainability Working Group meet together, forming the Sustainability Working Group, to pioneer the circular economy for fibre reinforced polymer composites.
Having identified the need for a shared foresight of what success looks like and what is needed to get there, the group committed to establishing ‘A Vision and Roadmap for Sustainable Composites’ to help bring focus, drive partnerships and generate new technologies to take the composites industry towards an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable future.
A report is now available which summarises the output from a workshop on 10th January 2019 detailing what steps need to be taken in order to achieve this. The Sustainability Working Group is keen to support and work with partners in industry, academia, research and trade associations to develop the areas covered in this report.
Steven Brown of Scott Bader, Chair of the Composites UK Sustainability Sub Group said; “This report describes a Composites Industry that balances the needs of society with business performance and environmental responsibility, however, it won't be realised by words alone. This report should be used as a working document to generate partnerships and projects to deliver upon the contents as “vision without action is just a dream but vision with action can change the world””.
In alignment with the UK Composites Strategy, Composites UK is working hard to promote the sustainability and environmental aspects of composites materials. Further resources are available on the Association’s website as well as details of how to join the Sustainability Subgroup and have your say.
Could you be part of turning this vision into reality? The KTN is holding a collaboration building workshop to take forward the recommendations of this report on 26th March in London. Please join us there - click here for details.
