Tim Wood, Northern Powerhouse Rail Director at Transport for the North, will join a number of key speakers at the Advanced Materials in Construction Conference 2019. Tim will inform delegates on the ambitious investment plans for a transformed rail network, and explain to attendees what role it will need to play in the delivery of the flagship programme.
In his keynote address to over 500 delegates at the Trans City Rail Event held in Manchester on 4th October, Tim explained that Transport for the North and partners are looking to work with innovators and collaborators on the multi-billion-pound infrastructure project, which will be transformational for the north of England. Northern Powerhouse Rail is set to change the way people live, work and play, and will help rebalance the UK economy after years of under investment. The programme aims to better connect the key economic areas and cities of the North, and its delivery is planned over 30 years by combining new, existing and already planned lines such as HS2.
Advanced Materials for Construction will provide a valuable opportunity for companies to learn of innovations across the composites, advanced materials and construction sector.
Tim Wood says, “I am looking forward to attending the conference and learning more about how advanced materials can be used across projects such as Northern Powerhouse Rail. We all have a role to play in transforming the North of England, not just in terms of transport, but improving quality of life and productivity.
“We want the North to flourish from the benefits of sustained transport investment, so businesses in East Lancashire are not deterred and limited from accessing supply chains and labour markets in South Yorkshire, for example.
“Through innovation and collaboration, we will assess and remove barriers to create the conditions for accelerated growth. Collaboration with many delegates at the Advanced Materials for Construction conference for example will be essential to achieving this, combining expert knowledge and counsel to achieve the best results for businesses and the public.
“If we are successful with our business cases for Northern Powerhouse Rail, we will be able to provide continuity to the rail industry, and certainty for its suppliers, which is something that has been lacking for a number of years.”
Other confirmed speakers for the conference, which features FRP in Infrastructure, include Laing O'Rourke, STRUCTeam, Jacobs, UCL, Scott Bader, C6(n), APB Group, Delft Infra Composites, Construction Composites, Witteveen+Bos and the National Composites Centre.
