BPF: Classic Design with the Museum of Design in Plastics - Ericofon telephone

Organised by BPF

This week Dr Louise Dennis will be exploring how the cobra shaped Ericofon looks back at telephone design of the past at the same time as pushing it into the future. A one-piece plastic telephone created by the Ericsson Company of Sweden it was the first commercially marketed telephone to incorporate the dial and handset into a single unit. This iconic design has been seen in everything from Casino Royale to Madmen. Because of its styling and its influence on future telephone design, the Ericofon is considered one of the most significant industrial designs of the 20th century by Phaidon.

Dr Louise Dennis is the Curator of the Museum of Design in Plastics (MoDiP). MoDiP is the only accredited museum in the UK with a focus on plastics. It is the UK's leading resource for the study and interpretation of design in plastics. MoDiP is a specialist research resource at the Arts University College at Bournemouth.
