This webinar is organised by Composites UK
Earlier this year, Composites UK launched its Good Practice Guide on the Joining of Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP) in collaboration with the National Composites Centre and TWI.
In this webinar, TWI’s Chris Worrall, will give a brief overview of joining methods of FRPs – the reasons behind joining FRPs, the challenges, types of joints and fasteners, adhesive bonding, welding, surface preparation, NDT and standards.
All attendees will be sent a copy of the guide and recording of the webinar after it takes place.
About the speaker
Chris Worrall is a Consultant at TWI responsible for providing composites joining, manufacture, processing and testing services to both members and through public funded projects.
His 30 years of composites expertise covers; composite-metal joining, thermoplastic composite welding, microstructure characterisation, mechanical testing of composite materials (including impact, fracture and toughness), finite element analysis (FEA) of composites, design of composite structures, manufacturing technology for composite materials. Chris was a participating member of ESIS TC4 and worked on the development of the protocol for Mode I DCB ISO standard between 1994 and 1999.
Chris holds a PhD in the field of impact of composite sandwich structures in addition to a BSc in metallurgy and materials science. Furthermore, Chris had significant involvement in developing an innovative material and manufacturing system for a thermoplastic composite for use in the automotive sector, with input from initial material characterisation through to patent application. Recently, Chris was part of the SurFlow™ team at TWI that won a Composites UK Innovation award.
