Ultima Forma is a design to manufacturing technology company specialising in electroforming. The business has a novel manufacturing process with applications across a range of advanced engineering sectors, including hydrogen containment, RF, erosion protection and lightweight structures.
Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, this role involves CAE modelling of electroforming manufacturing processes and projects. The role will provide technical research into a range of development projects, with the aim of characterising the electrodeposition of new manufacturing process facility under development. Another aspect of the role is to develop new technical solutions from a mix of internal IP and external capability into exploitable technology solutions. As well as working internally supporting the technical engineering and commercial teams, you will be externally engaged working with suppliers and customers.
Ultima Forma has a number of exciting advanced development projects underway with advanced engineering firms, mainly corporate customers looking at how our technology can be applied to improve product performance. There are opportunities to develop new exploitable IP at the manufacturing process level and product level, sometimes combining third party materials or technologies.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the role, as outlined below, will sit across all technical areas of the business;
- Comsol multi-physics modelling of electro-deposition processes.
- Ownership of technical research areas support development of the project portfolio.
- Assist with co-development of new flexible scale-up manufacturing processes that aim to meet throughput of new products.
- Learning more about Ultima Forma’s electroforming processes and advising how these could unlock new engineering solutions for growth markets.
- Input to the drafting of commercial proposals and grant funding applications.
- Provide company technical representation at relevant meetings, congresses and exhibitions in order to promote the interests of the company amongst key industry influencers and opinion makers, and to enhance the Ultima Forma profile in the industry.
- Development of the IP portfolio and strategy related to the safeguarding of new IP and filing of patents.
- Support the delivery of the business strategy.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
- A Masters degree or PhD in a related science area; materials or engineering.
- Experience with Comsol modelling of electrochemical systems
- Experience working on advanced engineering projects – ideally space, defence, energy, aerospace or other transport sector
- Ability to communicate commercial, technical and marketing messages in a relevant, effective and engaging format to varied audience members
- Ability to handle confidential issues across various stakeholders and navigate exclusivity and IP terms for the business
- Able to manage projects including junior technical team members
- Persuasive and able to successfully influence others
- Good time management, project management and organisational skills
- Ability to brief and manage the relationship with external stakeholders and influencers
- Energetic and resourceful team player with the ability to initiate and manage change
Desirable:
- Research knowledge of a technical area that aligns well with our technology or product development
- Awareness of business case development and budgetary planning of engineering and manufacturing projects
