Leading aerospace specialist Airframe Designs has proved its commitment to environmental management and continual improvement by successfully achieving the prestigious ISO 14001 certification. The audit of Airframe Designs required the organisation to assess environmental issues relevant to its operation including waste management, use of resources and efficiency.
Ross Chambers, quality manager at Airframe Designs, completed the Green Rose Programme – run by the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce – to develop and enhance the environmental management system as part of the integrated management system.
ISO 14001 is an internationally-recognised standard for environmental management systems which validates a company’s commitments to regulatory environmental requirements in the way it operates its business.
CEO of Airframe Designs Jerrod Hartley said: “We’re proud of this achievement because this gives reassurance to ourselves, our customers and stakeholders that we have all the processes in place to be a strong, environmentally responsible business. “We are committed to being sustainable in our operations as we progress towards Net Zero and this is all part of our vision for business excellence in everything we do.”
Airframe Designs is also generating most of the energy it uses using its own solar energy and battery storage system at its headquarters, whilst also committing to the SME Climate Hub, an initiative that supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their efforts to join the global race to Net Zero carbon emissions.
The audit success follows the approval to AS9100D and BS EN ISO 9001:2015 for aerospace quality standards, certification by the NQA to ISO 27001, an internationally recognised standard relating to information security, and Cyber Essentials Plus.
Recent projects undertaken by Blackpool-based Airframe Designs include the integration of new systems into heavy lift drone platforms, conceptual design at a platform level for new uncrewed air-systems, test rig and tooling for electric vehicle propulsion systems and most recently the design and analysis of operator consoles for a special mission aircraft.
