ABFC process the lava rock into fibre which produces direct and assembled roving with a sizing content of no more than 0.8%, resulting in high quality basalt fibre. Compared with glass fibre, basalt fibre has a higher tensile strength and elastic modulus, has a very high melting point, 100% basalt whereas glass fibre requires a complex mix of silica sand, boron, and other chemical additives. The strategic partnership with ABFC now gives Orlimex the ability to supply high quality basalt direct and assembled fibre, basalt CFM, basalt geogrids and basalt bars from 2mm -32mm diameter.
