Universal Matter (was Applied Graphene Materials) is proud to offer graphene nanoplatelet dispersions that are safe to handle and easily stirred into new and existing polymer and composite applications to provide a range of performance enhancing benefits.
With the correct incorporation, graphene nanoplatelets have the potential to significantly enhance an array of properties including mechanical, barrier, thermal, lubricating and electrical performance in new and existing industrial systems.
The company has found that the optimum way to introduce its graphene into a resin matrix is to incorporate them into a pre-dispersion, which can be diluted to suit the loading level required and ensure optimum performance gains. Offering GNPs in resins, solvents and other materials used in the composite system enables the end user to easily deploy the material in the final composite product.

Civil Engineering is the key to many of the issues affecting our lives today. Civil Engineers solve problems, design, build and maintain our living and working spaces. You might design a new stadium, work on a local by-pass or railway line, assess a damaged structure, provide immediate and safe drinking water to a refugee camp, or manage a multi-million pound construction project.
The Department of Civil Engineering sits under the School of Engineering.
At Birmingham, our staff and students are working on a diverse range of projects: in fluid mechanics we investigate topics ranging from the flooding of rivers to assessing the hydrodynamic efficiency of an oar blade in rowing; current geotechnical engineering projects range from developing ‘intelligent’ tunnels to cleaning up contaminated land; and in structural engineering our students are designing a variety of load-bearing structures as well as investigating and implementing the sustainable construction technologies of tomorrow.

At the Bristol Composites Institute we explore the manufacture, structural design and material properties of composites to address the overreaching grand challenges of sustainability and Net-Zero. The Bristol Composites Institute (BCI) has more than 240 staff and students, with an active grant portfolio of c. 25M. Academic capabilities are broad in scope and expertise includes: Process simulation and multi-scale modelling for optimised efficiency Novel composite manufacturing solutions for waste and cost reduction High-fidelity data-rich mechanical testing, for digital certification and model validation Materials discovery and sustainable material lifecycles Lightweight structures, leading to decarbonisation and Net-Zero BCI benefits from well-established major industry partnerships to support and exploit its research across sectors. The Institute is responsive to industry and engages with over 40 companies and SMEs as well as producing its own innovative spin-outs. Fundamental research is taken to higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) in close collaboration with the National Composites Centre (NCC) – an independently operated subsidiary of the University of Bristol. Examples of successful collaborations include the long-standing Composites University Technology Centre, supported by Rolls Royce, and a key role in delivering pioneering research into advanced materials as part of the national Defence Materials Centre of Excellence (DMEx), working with DSTL and the Henry Royce Institute. The Institute delivers world class training and education programmes in composites, including an internationally leading MSc course and doctoral training (PhD and EngD). Our current programmes: MSc in Advanced Composites Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Innovation for Sustainable Composites Engineering The Industrial Doctorate Centre (IDC) in Composites Manufacture Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Composites Science, Engineering and Manufacture

The School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds have a strong track record of delivering high-quality research to solve real world problems. We have a track record of delivering high-quality research to solve real world problems with particular expertise in: engineering systems and design; thermofluids, surfaces and interfaces; medical devices and regenerative medicine. The Advanced Composites Group at the School is dedicated to combining the aforementioned expertise to advancing research in the discovery, design, manufacturing, and recycling of high-performance polymer composites. Our focus extends from the foundational science of low-TRL blue-sky research to the practical applications at high TRL, encompassing both structural composites and multifunctional composites. Collaborating with internal and external partners. Our goal is to pioneer cutting-edge techniques, spanning modelling, synthesis, fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly/joining. Beyond research, we are committed to fostering composites education, contributing to the broader dissemination and application of our knowledge in academia and industry. The contacts of this group are Dr. Bing Zhang (b.zhang2@leeds.ac.uk) and Dr. Hamed Yazdani Nezhad (H.YazdaniNezhad@leeds.ac.uk)

The everyday tools you use – the phone in your pocket, the train on your morning commute, the car you drive – each relies on ambitious and innovative engineers. At the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering, we’re helping solve societal problems through creative and practical engineering solutions, combined with technical academic knowledge.
Our engineers make a positive difference locally and globally through their work and research – from using artificial intelligence to improve powered wheelchairs, to creating more efficient solar panels and lightweight manufacturing materials.
We have an open and welcoming culture, with experienced and supportive lecturers and experts, and a focus on practical skills and employability. We’ve got a proven track record of producing sought after graduates – 92% of our previous students are in work or further study 15 months after graduation (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey conducted in 2019).
