Ruckus Space, a specialist in composite inspection, repair and design, has strengthened its aerospace workflows with AeroView™ Analysis software from Evident. Serving industrial, automotive, and aerospace clients, the company is using phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) techniques to deliver inspections that are fast, traceable, and reliable at scale.
Founded by mechanical engineer Shawn Small, Ruckus Space has steadily grown its expertise in non-destructive testing of composites. Building on its early work analysing bicycle frames, the company has rapidly expanded into aerospace by combining custom scanning systems with Evident’s advanced ultrasonic testing solutions.
Automated immersion scanning with AeroView
As its aerospace projects have scaled up, Ruckus Space responded by creating four custom immersion-scanner tanks for high-throughput ultrasonic inspection. Two are configured for carbon-fibre tubes up to three metres in length. Used along with Evident’s OmniScan™ flaw detector, inspectors can complete a full scan in under three minutes.
Supporting this workflow is AeroView Analysis software, purpose-built to handle aerospace-grade PAUT data. Compatible with Evident OmniScan X3 and X4 flaw detectors, as well as QuickScan iX™, AeroView equips inspectors with the ability to rotate data views, adjust gate settings, and generate high-resolution C-scans — capabilities that make large-scale, automated immersion scanning practical for high throughput aerospace inspections.
Founder Shawn Small explained how earlier software placed real constraints on their process:
“Our original platform could only record information in one direction, which limited the way we could scan and interpret results. With AeroView, we can rotate data 90° and manipulate the gates and their alignment for C-scan image generation. That flexibility has been a game-changer.”
The introduction of AeroView has marked a step change for Ruckus Space. Instead of inspections being limited to individual parts, the company can now handle production-scale volumes at speed, giving aerospace clients both faster turnaround and the reassurance that every component has been assessed robustly.
Delivering aerospace-grade confidence
For Shawn Small and his team, what began with bicycle frames has grown into aerospace-grade inspections. By combining their custom immersion tanks with Evident’s OmniScan flaw detectors and AeroView Analysis software, Ruckus Space has built a workflow that delivers the speed, scale, and reliability demanded by aerospace inspections.
As Shawn puts it: “I never imagined we’d be scanning three-metre tubes in under three minutes. AeroView has completely changed what’s possible for us. It allows a small team like ours to deliver inspection capabilities that stand shoulder to shoulder with the biggest aerospace players.”
