Athena Blue Innovation to Design and Manufacture the 2025 Composites UK Awards

Composites UK is excited to announce that Athena Blue Innovation will design and manufacture the trophies for the 2025 Composites UK Awards, marking a new era in the celebration of industry excellence.

This year’s awards will replace the traditional glass trophies with a striking new design crafted from a combination of composite materials that reflect the innovation and sustainability at the heart of the composites sector.

Aaron Mannis and Peter Quigley, Co-founders of Athena Blue Innovation, said:
“We wanted this year’s award to acknowledge the breadth and diversity of the composites industry, while maintaining simplicity in its manufacture using our in-house capabilities in resin infusion, out-of-autoclave processing, and CNC machining. Guided by a conceptual design process and strong design-for-manufacture principles, the trophy brings together materials and processes that define the UK composites sector — from resin chemistry to fibres and tooling materials. The final form symbolises the industry’s balance between chemistry, craftsmanship, and cutting-edge materials.”

The materials used to create the awards have been primarily provided in-house by Athena Blue Innovation, with additional materials generously provided by fellow Composites UK member companies Base Materials and Toray Advanced Composites.

Peter Quigley, who is also a board director at Composites UK, said: “We are honoured to design this year’s awards, which not only recognise the outstanding achievements of our peers but also embody the advanced materials and sustainable practices driving our industry forward. These awards are themselves a testament to the creativity, innovation, and collaboration within the UK composites sector.”

Claire Whysall, Communications and Marketing Manager at Composites UK, added: “The awards have always been about celebrating excellence across our industry, and this new design symbolises the innovation that underpins everything we do. We’re delighted to work with Athena Blue Innovation to create something truly unique for this year’s winners.”

A total of nine winners will receive these newly designed awards at the 2025 Composites UK Awards ceremony on 29th October at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham.
