Briar Associates is one of the original companies of Composites UK’s Business Support Network – a selection of organisations who have forged a special relationship with the Association to enhance the services they deliver to its members, offering support, discounts or special rates.
Since 2017, Briar have been working with Composites UK members to obtain exemption from the Climate Change Levy (CCL) – a tax burden on site utility bills – for companies where site energy costs are more than £50k per annum. All areas of production qualify including recycling, fibre manufacture, intermediate pre-preg & woven products, and moulded/pressed composite components.
This initiative, which the company continues to offer, has been a huge success, with Briar recovering in excess of £1.8million for composites companies signed up to the scheme, with a further future saving forecast at £2million.
Briar has since introduced a new service which is more accessible to companies with lower energy bills that don’t qualify for CCL – the Energy Buying Group. This will assist as many Composites UK members as possible in challenging energy suppliers to drive down their energy costs.
In the current economic climate and energy crisis businesses need to be taking active steps to reduce their energy usage and secure cost-effective energy solutions matched to their needs.
Brokers have access to pricing not available to some businesses and Briar are pleased to be working with Composites UK to offer its members this opportunity, which is open to all members with 2022/23 renewals on electricity and/or gas. In subsequent years, Briar will be offering buying groups for later renewals for those currently still under contract.
The idea is that Briar will gather as many Composites UK members as possible and challenge suppliers to drive down energy costs for the group as a whole. This way can generate savings of up to 10% on normal one-off contract prices. As part of the Zenergi group, Briar has the buying power to achieve these savings to pass them on to members.
