The Fluency Business Group (Fluency), marketing and communications specialists for Advanced Materials and Advanced Engineering markets, is celebrating five years of unwavering service to the composites sector since its creation back in December 2017. From its initial venture to raising the profile of composites businesses and the benefits of advanced materials, Fluency has since gone on to expand its reach into Europe, USA, the Middle East, and the Far East.
Over the years, Fluency has gained international renown through its liaison with some of the biggest names in the composites sector. Services in PR, copy, artwork, and events management extend to businesses such as fibre manufacturing, supplying, research & development, and academic institutions.
Fluency’s fifth year in 2022 has seen exponential growth and positive change. In February, the company joined the East Midlands Chamber, becoming a leader for East Midlands business representation and receiving support through funding, networking opportunities, and international trading exposure. In March, Fluency’s Managing Director Gemma Smith was welcomed onto the UK & Ireland committee at the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE). As one of five female committee members, her inclusion paved the way for female recognition and leading bodies for the advanced materials sector.
Back in May, Gemma went on to complete a charity bike ride from London to JEC WORLD in Paris, where Fluency was to exhibit the next day. Cycling to raise awareness of mental health, Gemma
and R-Tech Materials Director Geraint Havard reached their target of an incredible £10,000 to go to Mind, their chosen mental health charity.
Along with marketing services, Fluency continues to grow its line of Advanced Materials Events across the country, reaching up to 600 visitors and 80 exhibitors across the year. As co-founders of one of the largest UK composites exhibitions, the International Composites Summit, Fluency is looking to expand the size of its events projects throughout 2023.
Composites UK, trade association for the UK composites industry, co-founded ICS with Fluency in 2021. Sue Halliwell, Operations Manager said: “With Fluency, we have been able to realise the ambitions for a UK based exhibition for the global composites market. ICS had a fantastic year in 2022, and with the great team at Fluency, we aim to make it bigger and better next year.”
Gemma Smith, Managing Director at Fluency, reflected on the company’s evolution: “To remember what we started with back in 2017, and now seeing what Fluency has since been able to accomplish, it’s been nothing short of an emotional triumph. Following a rebrand early this year, Fluency has since gone on to represent the very best in media relations and events partners for composites businesses around the world. I am extremely proud of what has been achieved.”
As Fluency’s fifth birthday comes around, I want to give a big thank you to the Fluency team who continue to promote composites in an enlightening way, and to our clients, who work with us to gain the most innovative solutions to their marketing needs. Here’s to another year of exciting adventures for the composites industry!”
Looking back on The Fluency Business Group’s history shows a company fresh out the gates for composite promotion and awareness. Unheeded by the pandemic and instead taking its time to help those businesses in need, Fluency has charged forwards through 2022 with incredible feats in charity work, women’s representation, and a duty to composites and advanced materials. For 2023, Fluency doesn’t look to be slowing down.
