The Department for Business and Trade has today (1st August) announced an indefinite extension to the use of CE marking for UK businesses.
This comes as part of a wider package of smarter regulations designed to ease business burdens and help grow the economy by cutting barriers and red tape. Following extensive engagement with industry, British firms will be able to continue the use of CE marking alongside UKCA.
However, it should be noted that this announcement applies only to the 18 sectors that fall under DBT. It does not apply to construction products, medical devices, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, rail products, marine equipment and ecodesign.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) have previously stated that recognition of the CE mark for construction products in Great Britain will continue until 30th June 2025. DLUHC will set out their proposals for reform of the construction products regime in due course.
Alan Banks, Chair of Composites UK said: “We welcome this approach as it will help safeguard the competitiveness of the UK composites industry and keep the UK as an attractive country for investment. We will continue to monitor and input to the discussions with other Government Departments and will update our members as and when more information is available.”
