Composites UK has revealed the shortlist for its 2021 composites industry awards.

The shortlisted companies for each award category are as follows (announced in alphabetical order):

  • Innovation in Composite Design: Jaguar Land Rover & Network Rail
  • Innovation in Composite Manufacture: iCOMAT & Loop Technology
  • Innovation in Composite Materials: Cecence & Composite Braiding
  • Sustainability Award: B&M Longworth & Prodrive Composites
  • Employer of the Year: Leybold & MPM

The winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner on 3rd November 2021, taking place at the National Motorcycle Museum. The event coincides with the Advanced Engineering Show at the neighbouring Birmingham NEC.

The Trevor Starr Outstanding Contribution to the Composites Industry Award, renamed to commemorate the passing of one of Composites UK’s original founders last year, will be awarded to Brett Hemingway, who is now semi-retired after being with BAE Systems for 42 years.

John Toner, Chairman of Composites UK and General Manager of Teledyne CML Composites said: “Brett has spent a career improving, innovating and promoting the composites industry. His breadth of knowledge and experience is second to none and he is a well-respected figure in the world of composites and aviation both domestically and internationally. Congratulations on this achievement Brett.”

Claire Whysall, Marketing and Communications Manager for Composites UK added about the event: “We are excited by the return of the awards dinner having missed the face-to-face event last year due to the pandemic. Bookings are currently nearing the 300 mark which is well on par with the last dinner in 2019 – it’s great to know that the industry is happy this event is back!

“As the 2020 award winners missed out on their face-to-face celebration, we’re inviting them to this year’s event so we can make sure they get the recognition they deserve too.”

The event will be hosted by Alan Banks of Ford Motor Company, and we are looking forward to having Kevin Matthews, CEO of Scott Bader as this year’s keynote speaker as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary. Composites UK thank the event sponsors Zund, Pegbox, Minden Systems, MPA Group, Briar and Rockwood Composites for their support.

Bookings will remain open until a week before the dinner (27th October) with all the details available through the website.
