ENGRail Recognised Across Four National And Regional Awards Following March Launch

Engineered Composites’ ENGRail 51mm box section modular GRP handrail system has been recognised across four industry awards in the months following its launch, with two national shortlistings still to be decided and two regional awards already won.

ENGRail has been named a finalist for Specialist Innovation of the Year at the CN Specialists Awards 2026, with judging held on 2 July at the emap offices in London. The system has also been shortlisted for Safety Achievement of the Year at the National Rail Awards 2026. Results for both awards will be announced in September.

Separately, ENGRail has already been recognised at regional level. The product received a Highly Commended award in the Innovation Award category at the Wales Business Awards 2026, and was named winner of Engineering Innovation of the Year at the Borders Business Awards.

Mr Gavin Williams, Managing Director of Engineered Composites and Vice Chair of Composites UK, said the recognition reflected the work behind ENGRail’s development.

“ENGRail was built to solve a genuine gap in the GRP handrail market, and it has been independently tested to back that up,” Mr Williams said. “Being recognised by four separate award panels, at both national and regional level, tells us the industry sees the same thing we do. Whatever happens with the National Rail Awards and CN Specialists Awards in September, this has already been a strong year for the product.”

ENGRail was launched in March 2026 following independent structural testing at Commercial Standard Testing Lab in Burton, which confirmed a load capacity of 1.657 kN per metre at 25mm deflection with full elastic recovery. The system exceeds public assembly loading requirements under BS EN 1991-1-1 and is the only GRP handrail system in the UK market to demonstrate this level of independently verified performance.

Further technical information on ENGRail is available from Engineered Composites, a Chester-based manufacturer with over 40 years of trading history supplying GRP products across rail, construction, water, defence and industrial sectors.
